Work at Camp

Just as the name implies, Camp Rolling Hills gently falls away from the flat farmlands near Pleasant Hill, Ohio, into rolling hills and ravines that end at the Stillwater River. Accredited by the American Camp Association for its high standards in both facilities and programs, Camp Rolling Hills has offered a variety of camping experiences since 1936.

Camp Rolling Hills is the perfect location for campouts, overnights, and getting in touch with the environment. This beautiful facility is available for troops, service units, and other Girl Scout groups to reconnect with the outdoors!

Service and Take Action Projects on GSWO Properties Expand

Service Learning is an essential part of Girl Scouting. What better way to "make the world a better place" than though a Take Action project, Bronze Award, Silver Award, Gold Award or community service project.

GSWO receives many requests to place service projects on council properties and we are not able to accomidate all of them. When working with your Girl Scouts discuss if a GSWO property is the best place for the service project or is there a better fit in the community?

Consider talking with people at your school, community, church, parks, etc., for projects that will help make it better for people and the environment.Contact local nursing homes, shelters, food banks, schools, local governments, parks, zoos, crisis nurseries, daycare programs, domestic violence shelters, or other creative locations where girls can share their time with their community.

If a GSWO property is the best way to serve your community fill out the

Service Project Approval Application with your Girl Scouts. When proposing a project at a GSWO camp or property keep in mind that:

  • The GSWO service project committe reviews applications once a month, please make sure you're giving yourself enough lead time.
  • Your Girl Scouts will be asked to do a presentation on the project before it is approved.
  • Please understand that certain camps are designated for certain topics, the commitee may come back with a reccomendation to move to a different property.

Not sure what the difference between a service project and a Girl Scout Take Action project is? Check out the information below!

Community service projects are acts of kindness and important ways to help something or someone right now. They are commonly short-term projects that almost always multiply efforts that are already in place. Examples include collecting food for an existing food pantry, providing clothing or toiletries to people who have suffered during a disaster, cleaning up a rundown playground, or picking up trash at a park, forest, or beach.

Camp Service Project Ideas

Adopt a trail and keep it trimmed and well marked
Adopt a unit and keep it clean
Gather firewood to stock a fire circle
Adopt or create flower beds - clean, plant, mulch
Scrub washstands with bleach
Wash windows
Dust
Make benches
Pick up rocks and sticks in mowing areas
Clean out/straighten up fire circles
Wash curtains
Remove graffiti
Remove honeysuckle (make something with it!)

Girl Scout Take Action projects address an issue by tackling the factors that cause or contribute to it. As you may expect, these projects have a far-reaching influence. They’re designed to change something for the better—forever. Projects associated with Journeys and the highest awards (the Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award) are Take Action projects.

When you take action, you work as a team to:

  1. Identify a problem
  2. Research the root cause of the problem
  3. Come up with a sustainable solution
  4. Develop a team plan
  5. Put the plan into action
  6. Reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and what you’ve learned

Here are three ways to create sustainable change:

  1. Make your solution permanent
  2. Educate and inspire others to be part of the change
  3. Change a rule, regulation, or law

Equipment Rental Expand

Ever need a set of Girl Scout and WAGGGS flags for a special ceremony but not sure where to borrow them? Or want to try some campfire cooking in a dutch oven but not sure about spending troop funds (or your own) on cast iron cookware?

While your own set of flags or campfire cooking gear can be quite useful if you use them frequently, there are some items where it's truly better to borrow than to purchase with troop funds to use your resources wisely. That's why our Resource Centers across the council have common items for troops to borrow and enrich their Girl Scout experience!

Please note, all program resources may be checked out only:

  • For one week, unless confirmed by the program staff
  • By a Girl Scout volunteer for Girl Scout use.

Video Tours Expand

Join us as we take you on a tour of Camp Rolling Hills. We will drive through first so you can get a lay of the camp, and then tour most buildings. This is perfect if you've never been to Rolling Hills before, or you just miss seeing the familiar sights!

Accessible Areas at Camp Expand

We are so excited to offer an area at Camp Rolling Hills that is accessible to Girl Scouts of all abilities The Rainbow Lodge is wheelchair accessible.

Camp Rolling Hills an awesome getaway spot, in part because you often get camp all to yourself! That exclusivity comes with a cost, though.

There currently aren’t enough reservations to dedicate an on-site ranger to Rolling Hills this year, so certain areas won’t receive the high level of attention they need for regular use by troops. The tent and cabin units, as well as the pool, require daily on-site maintenance, even when no campers are present.

To use our resources wisely, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio will not open the pool this summer, and the Whispering Winds tent unit and the Tall Oaks cabins will not open for reservations for the remainder of 2024.

Despite these temporary closures, the rest of camp is still open! Our property team will work together to maintain the lodges and central areas at Rolling Hills, so please come enjoy all the other wonderful features of this beautiful camp! The camp lodges serve as great bases for outdoor activities as well as day trips into nearby Troy, Tipp City, and Greenville.

If you are reserving 3 or more units for a single time block, you may be eligible for a discount. Contact the Customer Care Team at 888.350.5090 or by email to make your reservation. Please have your preferred camp and date(s) ready!

Need help with your reservation? The Customer Care Team is here to help! Contact them at 888.350.5090 or by email!

Become a Camp Host at Camp Rolling Hills!

If you are looking for an opportunity to share your skills and knowledge with Girl Scouts this April through October, you can become a GSWO Camp Host at Camp Rolling Hills. As a camp host, you'll help campers navigate the property, maintain the Welcome Center, answer questions, and more — you could even facilitate your favorite camp activity! To sign up, you'll need to:

  • Be an approved volunteer for the 2024-25 membership year.
  • Have completed Troop Camp Training.
  • Be able to attend a mandatory information session via Zoom on February 4 or March 6 (February attendees will have first priority when choosing their camp weekends).
  • Be available to host at least one weekend at Camp Rolling Hills in April through October 2025.

CSA troops can also come along for the fun, as long as they attend with an approved, camp-trained volunteer. It’s a great way for volunteers and older girls to build leadership and teamwork skills while adventuring outdoors!
