This week we are learning about all things space. From learning new foods, going on a solar system hike, trying new crafts and more —by the end of the week, you'll be over the moon!
Along the way, you’ll see some familiar faces, hear some of your favorite camp songs and join us in laughter and fun. It’s your summer, so camp like a Girl Scout!
The first sessions for each topic are recommended for Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors (grades K-5) and the second sessions are recommended for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors (grades 6-12), but all are welcome for each session!
Outdoor Skill Building
Join us as we go through different tiers of outdoor living skills for all ages. Follow along while you watch the video and then give it a try!
Personal First Aid Kit
Traveling to space is a big task for astronauts and it takes a ton of preparation. While we are here on Earth, it's important to be prepared, too! Learn how to make your own first aid kit so you can be ready for a variety of situations.
Dehydrated Food
Join Yakker as she teaches you how to dehydrate your own food using a dehydrator or the oven.
Crafts
Tune in for our art programming. These were live sessions with our camp staff where they showed you the arts of camp!
Solar System Snow Globes
Join Jigsaw for this fun craft - making your very own snow globe with the solar system inside!
Galaxy T-Shirts
Join Luna as she teaches you how to make galaxy t-shirts!
Nature
No adventure is complete without exploring the outdoors. Join us as we take you through the trails of our camps—with a twist! Each hike we’ll share some activities you can do on your own, wherever you are.
Solar System Walk
Our Solar System is huge. There is a lot of space in between planets--millions of miles! Here's a great way to visually see how far each planet is from the sun using a roll of toilet paper and some random objects!
Solar System Hike
The Sun is the center of our Solar System. Have you ever wondered how big the planets are that revolve around it? Or how far away the planets are from the Sun? Join us for this Solar System Hike and find out how big and far away the planets are on a smaller scale.
Cooking by the Campfire
Thursdays are for cooking out! Grab your ingredients and gather round the campfire (or kitchen) for a play by play of how to make some delicious campfire meals and sweet treats.
1 PM: Pizza Stuffed Zucchini & Blueberry Pancakes
Try out this creative alternative to pizza crust - zucchini! And you'll still get to add all of your favorite toppings! Then, finish your meal with some blueberry pancakes (great for breakfast or dessert)!
3 PM: Buffalo Chicken Hand Pie & Pineapple Surprise
This great pie iron food has buffalo chicken goodness wrapped up in a biscuit! Then, for a delicious dessert, you can have a classic donut with a nice pineapple surprise!
Friday: STEM
Finish out the week by joining our experts in the field of STEM! While most people are encouraged not to try things in their living rooms, you’ll be able to challenge yourself to some pretty awesome science and engineering projects on Fridays.
1 PM: Butterfly Flight (& Dessert Decorating)
In week 1, we learned about paper rockets and paper airplanes, but how do butterflies generate lift? Join us as we discover the mysteries of butterfly flight, and make our own 2D wind tunnel using milk, pudding mix, and food coloring to see the vortexes or swirls that develop from a butterfly’s flapping flight.
You can even use these principles of fluid dynamics and laminar or turbulent flow to decorate desserts. The classic Napoleon dessert uses laminar flow to create that special design.
Join us for the second half of our tour of Camp Libbey! We will show you inside some of the lodges/buildings at camp so you can see what they look like.
Join Program Manager (and long time Girl Scout Camp attendee) Chelsea Smith AKA Dandy, and Lifetime Girl Scout and Bat Conservation Scientist Kristen Lear as she talks about bats!
